RICHARD "DICK" DUANE ZUPPwas born on June 20, 1941 to Clifford and Florence (Groth) Zupp in Pipestone, Minnesota. He was raised on several farms northeast of Pipestone. He attended school in Pipestone, graduating from Pipestone High School in 1959. He went on to attend Seward Concordia College for two years until he decided to come home and farm instead. He was united in marriage to Lois Stueven on November 14, 1964 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Pipestone. In 1970, the couple moved to a farm northwest of Pipestone where they still lived and farmed. Dick also owned a ridge till equipment business for a time as well. Dick entered the care of the Pipestone County Hospice House in Pipestone and passed away peacefully there on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at the age of 81.
Dick was a man of God and had a strong Christian Faith. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where he played piano for the choir for 20 years, taught Sunday School for over 50 years, and was on a number of church boards as well.
Dick was also passionate about the land God had given him. Soil/land and water conservation was incredibly important to him throughout his years of farming. He participated in a number of conservation activities; he was president of the Minnesota State Association as well as served on the national board. Dick enjoyed attending German festivals and listening and dancing to polka music. He could often be found on a Sunday afternoon listening to old time music with a big bowl of popcorn in his lap. One of his favorite songs to play on the piano was “The Third Man Theme.” Dick enjoyed nearly anything “Western.” He liked western clothing/suits, and cowboy hats. He liked to read western books, especially Louis L’Amour and took great interest in the history of the Old West. Dick and Lois loved to travel. They took many RV trips to Arizona where they wintered for over 20 years.
Dick is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lois, of Pipestone; two sons, Randall (Connie) Zupp, and Rodney (Jennifer) Zupp, both of Pipestone; five grandchildren, Whitney (TJ) Carpenter, Cody (Tabatha) Brown, Nathanael, Lucas, and Joshua; and seven great-grandchildren, Ezekiel, Isaac, Izabella, Abbygail, Olivia, Violet, and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents; his younger brother, David; and one grandson, Andrew.
