YouTube sensation turned boxer Jake Paul will take on former undisputed world champion and Hall of Famer Mike Tyson in a sanctioned and competitive boxing match Saturday, July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Netflix will provide live coverage of the bout.

Below, we look at Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson odds from BetMGM Sportsbook before making our expert boxing picks and predictions days before the fight.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation approved the terms of the fight, which will no longer be an exhibition. The rounds will be shorter, and the gloves will be heavier for this matchup. The bout will include a referee and judges, with the fight counting against each others’ professional record.

The standard weight for gloves of a professional boxer checks in at 10 ounces, but 14-ounce gloves will be used for this bout as heavier gloves reduce the power and speed of punches. Given the age of Tyson — he turns 58 June 30 — the department of licensing and regulation for combative sports takes into consideration the age of the boxers as well as the win-loss record of each fighter and other undisclosed factors before approving conditions and terms for the fight.

Tyson retired in 2005 after logging 50 victories as a professional, including 44 via knockout. He jumped back into the ring in an exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr. back in November 2020.

Tyson is basically the Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky of boxing. Everyone knows his name. He was the undisputed world heavyweight champ from 1987-90 before a shocking loss to Buster Douglas. That was one of 6 losses for the former champ, but the one which everybody remembers.

Sadly, the younger generation likely knows more about Paul. They’ve certainly seen more from Paul lately, whether it’s on social media, his multitude of endorsem*nts or his boxing matches.

When Tyson fought Jones Jr. in 2020, Paul was also on the card, and he made quick work of former NBA player turned boxer Nate Robinson. That fight was mostly a joke as Paul dominated the fight and knocked Robinson out in short order.

Since then, the competition has been increasingly impressive for Paul, and he has really started to look more like a fighter, and less like a guy doing this as a side hustle. Paul is a serious boxer. His training regimen is no joke.

Paul has 10 boxing matches under his belt with a 9-1 record and 6 KO/TKOs. Fights against the likes of Ali Eson Gib, Robinson and even former MMA fighters Ben Askren or Tyron Woodley didn’t move the needle much as far as Paul’s credibility with old-school boxing analysts and fans. All of those opponents were making their boxing debuts.

However, Paul started to be taken a little more seriously when he lost via split-decision to a ‘real’ boxer in Tommy Fury in February 2023 at Diriyah Arena in Saudi Arabia. He even knocked Fury down in Round 8, earning some serious credibility despite the loss.

Paul bounced back with a win against another former MMA fighter making his boxing debut in Nate Diaz last August. Paul followed that up with KO/TKO wins over Andre August and Ryan Bourland in his past 2 outings, setting up this clash with Tyson.
